PROJECT SNAPSHOT  |  Discover Jazz Festival "JazzLab" Webcast Series

JazzLab is an annual audio exhibit that coincides with Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. Curated by Burlington City Arts through a partnership with Tank Studio, Burlington's premiere independent recording studio, Cortex is the official webcast partner of Burlington Discover Jazz Festival and the JazzLab studio sessions.

Located at the BCA Center, formerly known as the Firehouse Gallery, Tank Studio has created a pop-up recording studio on the second floor of the gallery and three groups have been invited to participate in the live, experimental recording sessions: Snarky Puppy, Barika, and a Burlington/New Orleans hybrid all-star group.

These live studio sessions are open to the public and intended to offer a glimpse into the creative and technical processes that occur during a studio recording session. The audience is encouraged to interact with the groups and engineers between takes, and there will be 'meet the artist' and 'meet the engineer' sessions throughout each day's session.

Schedule:

Wednesday, June 8  |  Session: 1pm-7pm, Webcast: 2pm-5pm

Thursday, June 9  |  Session: 1pm-7pm, Webcast: 2-5pm

Saturday, June 11  |  Session: 11am-5pm, Webcast: 12-3pm

AGENCY SNAPSHOT  |  Off-Site Meeting at Stowe, Vermont

Some of our most ingenious ideas come out of our passions, not to mention immersing ourselves in the natural environment.

Thanks to some fresh January snowfall, we closed down the studio in the a.m. and took advantage of a key fringe benefit: powder turns.

Just another day in the office...

PROJECT SNAPSHOT  |  Media is Dead. Long Live Media. Is Video the Savior?

As outdoor industry media rapidly moves toward digital domination, the role of video and photography has taken on a new level of priority and urgency.

Media companies, brands and retailers are all working to include compelling imagery in their media mix... but, who's doing it right? Who's doing it effectively? Who's doing it affordably? And most importantly, how can outdoor industry brands and retailers tap into cutting edge trends in video and photography?

To dig into the meat of cutting edge trends in video and photography, Pale Morning Media (PMM) organized a panel of outdoor industry leaders and innovators in video and film for a panel discussion at the 2010 Outdoor Retailer summer show. PMM president and founder Drew Simmons moderated the panel, and Cortex was tapped to provide a late-breaking webcast feed of the seminar, which aired on Thursday, August 5, 2010.

PROJECT SNAPSHOT | Guerilla QR Tags at Outdoor Retailer 2010

We've found QR codes are a great tool for delivering interactive content to a very targeted, sophisticated tech-savvy audience. It's a popular means for content in countries such as Japan, but it hasn't caught fire here in the US. Yet.

Most recently we targeted the Outdoor Retailer show, which takes over Salt Lake City two weeks out of the year – in January and August.

We contemplated the impact of our viral sticker campaign, and whether or not folks would disagree with our guerilla stickering approach, but in the end we determined the benefits outweigh the risks.

We also agreed to stay independent from show organizers, as to not risk the integrity of our guerilla approach and to ensure our research maintains an objective perspective.

Real interaction, real participation.

According to the poll on Outdoor Retailer’s website, 85% of respondents have SmartPhones. So we wanted to see how many will scan our QR code.

Contact us directly if you're interested in discussing the results.

PROJECT SNAPSHOT  |  JazzLab: Tank Studio + Burlington City Arts

Dubbed "JazzLab", Tank Studio partnered with Burlington City Arts and Burlington Discover Jazz Festival to record and mix three experimental studio sessions featuring three different acts; yoUSAy Placate, Manual Moon and Villanelles.

The temporary pop-up studio was located at the Firehouse Center on Church Street in downtown Burlington, and it was open to the public to offer an unfiltered glimpse into the artistic and technical processes for recording live music in a studio environment.

This webcast was promoted virally during the event using social media channels, and viewers watched *live* from 15 states, the District of Columbia and Europe. Additionally, the host website experienced a 12x viewership increase surrounding the broadcast, including traffic from 27 states, D.C., and 14 countries scattered throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

Here are some unedited, raw segments which were pulled from the live webcast provided by Cortex on June 7-9, 2010. Stay tuned to TankStudio.org for future live webcasts.
